LinuxComplete the following steps to install the LabVIEW 2009 MathScript RT Module on Linux from the LabVIEW MathScript RT Module installation CD.
[*]Log into the system as root.
[*]Insert the LabVIEW 2009 MathScript RT Module installation CD. Use mount /mnt/cdrom to mount the CD. On some systems, the CD mounts automatically.
[*]To change the current directory to the mounted CD, enter the following command:
cd /mnt/cdrom
[*]To run the installation script, enter the following command:
sh ./INSTALL
If you encounter the message bad interpreter: Permission denied, the CD might not have mounted with executable permissions. To avoid this, enter the following command:
/bin/sh ./INSTALL

Refer to the LabVIEW Real-Time Module Release and Upgrade Notes for information on using the MathScript RT Module on RT targets.Script Highlighting in MathScript NodesLabVIEW 8.6 introduced script highlighting, which uses colors to distinguish between different parts of a script in a MathScript Node. MathScript Nodes in LabVIEW 2009 feature two types of script highlighting:
[*]Syntax highlighting—Displays script elements such as operators and comments in different colors, as in LabVIEW 8.6. Syntax highlighting allows you to see when a user-defined function or a variable overrides a built-in MathScript function.
[*]Data type highlighting—Displays the data types of variables in different colors and font attributes. Data type highlighting allows you to observe the data types of variables throughout your script.
To enable either syntax highlighting or data type highlighting for a particular MathScript Node, right-click inside the node and select Script Highlighting»Syntax or Script Highlighting»Data Types from the shortcut menu. Syntax highlighting is enabled by default. You cannot enable both syntax and data type highlighting for the same MathScript Node.When you enter a script while data type highlighting is enabled, click outside the node to apply colors and font attributes. To customize the appearance of data types in MathScript Nodes, use the MathScript page of the Options dialog box. To disable script highlighting for a particular node, right-click inside the node and select Script Highlighting»None from the shortcut menu.To enable or disable script highlighting for all MathScript Nodes, use the MathScript page of the Options dialog box.Data Types in MathScript NodesYou can now configure MathScript Node output terminals to use the following data types, including one-dimensional and two-dimensional arrays of the data types:

Configuring the Data Type of MathScript Node Output TerminalsLabVIEW determines the data types of variables in MathScript Nodes at edit time. The data type is the smallest type that encompasses all possible values of the variable.By default, LabVIEW automatically selects the data type for output terminals when you click outside a MathScript Node. Right-click an output terminal and move the cursor over the Choose Data Type shortcut menu item to view the data type or data types LabVIEW determines in the shortcut menu. LabVIEW marks the data types it determines with an asterisk (*).You can configure the data type of an output terminal manually by right-clicking the terminal and selecting the desired data type from the Choose Data Type»All Types submenu in the shortcut menu.Refer to the Configuring the Data Type of MathScript Node Terminals topic in the LabVIEW Help for more information about configuring the data type of MathScript Node terminals.Context Help For Your Scripts in MathScript NodesYou can click outside a MathScript Node and then move the cursor over a variable in the node to display its data type in the Context Help window. You also can move the cursor over a built-in MathScript function to display information about the function in the Context Help window. If you move the cursor over a user-defined function that contains comments, the Context Help window displays the path to the user-defined function and the first group of commented lines from your .m file.New MathScript FunctionsLabVIEW 2009 includes the is_student function. You can use this function in the LabVIEW MathScript Window or a MathScript Node.Miscellaneous MathScript Enhancements and ChangesLabVIEW 2009 includes the following miscellaneous MathScript enhancements and changes:
[*]The MathScript: Search Paths page and the MathScript: Script Highlighting pages of the Options dialog box were combined into one page.
[*]The Mac OS and Linux operating systems support the pause function, although you must specify the number of seconds to wait before continuing execution as an input.
[*]The bitshift function accepts 0 for the first input.
[*]The maximum image size you can use with the fread_image and fwrite_image functions increased to 4 megapixels.
[*]The quantdecode and quantencode functions no longer accept complex inputs.
[*]The inf and nan functions accept inputs, which generate a matrix of values that are infinity or NaN, respectively.

The following functions return an error when called in the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine if you request an output from these functions. If you do not request an output, the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine does not execute these functions. Either do not request an output or remove these functions from your scripts before you build a stand-alone application or shared library.

The load function is supported in the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine only if you request an output. [*]Custom script highlighting colors you applied in a LabVIEW 8.6 VI using the MathScript: Script Highlighting page of the Options dialog box do not apply when you open the VI in LabVIEW 2009.
[*]If you open a VI saved in LabVIEW 8.6 or earlier in LabVIEW 2009, LabVIEW maintains the data types of output terminals on MathScript Nodes from the previous version. If the data type from the previous version differs from the data type LabVIEW determines, the terminals contain coercion dots, and the Auto Select Type shortcut menu item is not selected.
[*]MathScript Nodes no longer support two-dimensional arrays of the string data type.
