You must activate a valid LabVIEW NI SoftMotion Module license before you can run the LabVIEW NI SoftMotion Module. To activate the LabVIEW NI SoftMotion Module, use the serial number you received as part of your installation package.Refer to the Activation Instructions for National Instruments Software for more information about licensing activation.New Features and ChangesNew and Changed in the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 NI SoftMotion ModuleNI SoftMotion Express VI ExamplesExample programs are now available for the NI SoftMotion Express VIs. Refer to Finding Example VIs in the LabVIEW Help for information about how to access the examples.Anti-Windup Improvements in the PI Current Loop VIThe NI SoftMotion PI Current Loop FPGA Motor Control VI contains improved anti-windup logic using an integral contribution (Ic) term in place of the integral limit (Ilim) term. The Ic term coerces the setpoint to prevent excessive overshoot in the case of output saturation.Position Compare and Position Capture Express VI Behavior ChangeThe Position Compare and Position Capture Express VIs have been modified to add an additional input, return when active?. This input is TRUE by default and causes the Express VI to return as soon as the method is active. To retain the previous behavior, change the input to FALSE. This causes the Express VI to block until the compare or capture operation has occurred.NotePreviously dropped position compare and position capture VIs retain the previous behavior and do not contain the new input.New and Changed in the LabVIEW 2011 NI SoftMotion ModuleConfiguration APIThe new NI SoftMotion Module Configuration API adds the ability to programmatically set the same axis properties available in the Axis Configuration dialog box in your applications. Refer to Configuring NI SoftMotion Axes in the NI SoftMotion Module book of the LabVIEW Help, available by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help for more information.TipRefer to the example VIs in <labview>\examples\Motion\ConfigurationAPI for examples using the new Axis properties in an application.NI SoftMotion Express VIsYou can now create motion control applications that take advantage of the ease of use of Express VIs.Profile GenerationUsing the new Solve Profile method for straight-line, arc, and contour moves, you can generate a motion profile using specified constraints and obtain position, velocity, and other data without executing a move on an axis or coordinate resource. This data can be used for prototyping, debugging, or for generating position setpoints for the new Motor Control VIs.Motor Control VIsThe NI SoftMotion FPGA palette adds new Motor Control VIs that allow for servo and stepper motor control, including VIs for spline interpolation, PID and cascaded position-velocity control loops, incremental encoder handling, and motion I/O operations such as position compare and position capture. The Motor Control VIs also include 3-phase servo VIs used for implementing field-oriented control commutation that can be used with the NI 9502 C Series brushless servo drive module. To use the NI 9502 with LabVIEW 2011 or later, you must install NI-RIO 4.0.0 with the CompactRIO Module Support 4.0.1 update, available at ni.com/drivers, which adds software support for the NI 9502 module in LabVIEW.Programmatic Table CreationThe Create Motion Resource VI adds a Create Motion Resource Item instance that allows you to programmatically create a table resource for use in contour moves.Contour Points[][] InputThe new Contour Express VI and Contour Points[][] property allow you to provide contour points for synchronous contour moves as an array of position points rather than providing them in a table.Wait Until Done VIThe NI SoftMotion palette has a new Wait Until Done VI for synchronous operations. This VI implements an adaptive polling method and is recommended for use both with Express VI applications and with NI SoftMotion properties and methods in place of the Wait Until Done method.Communication Between RT TargetsUsing axes, coordinates, and tables on an RT target from another RT target is now supported. Refer to Motion Resources in the NI SoftMotion Module book of the LabVIEW Help, available by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help for more information.NI SoftMotion for SolidWorks Simulation Start/Stop BehaviorInstead of starting and stopping SolidWorks simulations by switching the NI Scan Engine mode, there is now a shortcut menu option for each operation. Refer to Starting and Stopping a SolidWorks Simulation in LabVIEW in the NI SoftMotion Module book of the LabVIEW Help, available by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help for more information.Updated Function Block Palette LocationThe NI SoftMotion function blocks are now located under the Advanced subpalette.LabVIEW 2011 SP1 NI SoftMotion Module Bug Fix ListYou can access the software and documentation bug fix list online. Refer to the National Instruments Web site for an up-to-date list of bug fixes in the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 NI SoftMotion Module.General InformationLabVIEW Real-Time UsersTo use the updates and features included in the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 NI SoftMotion Module, you must install the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 NI SoftMotion Module software on the LabVIEW Real-Time target system using Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).Accessing the HelpRefer to the LabVIEW Help, accessible by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help from the pull-down menu in LabVIEW, for information about NI SoftMotion Module concepts, using NI SoftMotion, step-by-step instructions using the LabVIEW NI SoftMotion Module, and reference information about NI SoftMotion VIs and functions.Finding ExamplesLabVIEW examples for the NI SoftMotion Module are located in the labview\examples\Motion folder.
