New Features and ChangesLimit Stop Mode Options
The NI SoftMotion Module 2010 SP1 adds a new Don't Stop Limit Stop Mode that allows you to receive notification of the limit but not command the axis to stop.
    Selecting the Axis Loop Mode
Specifying the location of the control loop for a servo axis has moved from a dropdown box on the General Settings page of the Axis Configuration dialog box to the Location section of the Position Loop page. In addition, rather than selecting between Interpolated Position and Torque servo axis loop modes, the selection is a checkbox. When the checkbox disabled (default), the control loop executes on the module at a faster rate than the trajectory generator. Enabling this checkbox moves the control loop to the RT host so that both loops execute at the scan rate.
    Stepper Axis Feedback Type Options
Stepper axes can now support four different loop mode/feedback configurations. Configure these options on the General Settings and Stepper pages.
    • Configure the axis for open-loop mode with no position feedback.
      • Stepper Axis Loop Mode: Open-Loop
      • Feedback Source: None
    • Configure the axis to read position feedback.
      • Stepper Axis Loop Mode: Open-Loop
      • Feedback Source: Encoder/Analog feedback device
      • Enforce Position Error Limit: disabled
    • Configure the axis to read position feedback and to disable the drive if the specified position error limit is exceeded. Use this option for position command drives.
      • Stepper Axis Loop Mode: Open-Loop
      • Feedback Source: Encoder/Analog feedback device
      • Enforce Position Error Limit: enabled
    • Configure the axis for closed-loop mode. Refer to Configuring a Closed-Loop Stepper Axis for detailed closed-loop stepper information.
      • Stepper Axis Loop Mode: Closed-Loop
      • Feedback Source: Encoder/Analog feedback device

    Reset Position Behavior
Changed the behavior of the Reset Position function in the following situations:
    • You cannot reset position on an axis or coordinate when it is moving.
    • You cannot reset position of a current gearing or camming master axis.
General InformationUsing the NI 9512 C Series Drive Interface Module in FPGA Interface Mode
NI-RIO 3.5 adds FPGA Interface mode support for the NI 9512 C Series drive interface module. You must upgrade the firmware on the NI 9512 module to version 1003608 or later to enable support for FPGA Interface mode. Refer to the Motion Modules section in the FPGA Module book of the LabVIEW Help for firmware upgrade instructions.
Note  Attempting to use the NI 9512 module without updating the firmware causes the module to return a Timing Synchronization Fault.
    LabVIEW Real-Time Users
To use the updates and features included in the LabVIEW 2010 SP1 NI SoftMotion Module, you must install the LabVIEW 2010 SP1 NI SoftMotion Module software on the LabVIEW Real-Time target system using Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
