Overview System Requirements Installation Instructions Known Issues Bug Fixes Accessing the Help Finding Examples Automating the Installation of NI Products OverviewThe LabVIEW Touch Panel Module extends the LabVIEW graphical development environment to Touch Panel devices so you can create human-machine interface (HMI) applications for Touch Panel devices running Windows CE or Windows Embedded Standard. You can create custom touch panel displays to communicate with National Instruments embedded real-time platforms, such as Compact FieldPoint, CompactRIO, and Compact Vision System. Note National Instruments has recently announced discontinued production and support of Windows CE in the Touch Panel Module. The last version of the Touch Panel Module that will include support for Touch Panel devices running Windows CE is the Touch Panel Module 2012 SP1. For existing users of the Touch Panel Module for Windows CE, National Instruments will continue to offer extended support according to the guidelines found in the NI LabVIEW Life Cycle Policy at ni.com/labview/product-lifecycle. System RequirementsIn addition to the system requirements for the LabVIEW Development System, the Touch Panel Module has the following requirements: - LabVIEW 2012 SP1 Base, Full, or Professional Development System (32-bit)
- At least 250 MB of disk space
- (Windows CE) A Touch Panel device, such as the NI TPC-2006, running Windows CE 4.2 or 5.0
- (Windows Embedded Standard) A Touch Panel device, such as the NI TPC-2512, running Windows Embedded Standard
Refer to the LabVIEW Readme for additional system requirements and supported operating systems for LabVIEW 2012 SP1. Installation InstructionsYou can install all of your LabVIEW products—including the Touch Panel Module—using the LabVIEW 2012 SP1 Platform DVDs. Refer to the LabVIEW Installation Guide on the LabVIEW Platform DVD 1 for installation instructions and system requirements. To request additional LabVIEW Platform DVDs, refer to the National Instruments website. Note If you purchased this product with an NI Software Suite or NI Product Bundle, use the installation media that shipped with your purchase to install this product. Additional Installation InformationThis section contains information that you might find helpful as you install the Touch Panel Module. - The Touch Panel Module runs in evaluation mode if you do not activate it. In evaluation mode, you can create VIs, but any Touch Panel applications you build run only for five minutes. You have the option of activating the Touch Panel Module during the installation process. You also can use the NI License Manager, available by selecting Start»All Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager, to activate National Instruments products. Refer to the National Instruments License Manager Help, available by selecting Help»Contents in the NI License Manager, for more information about activating NI products.
- The Touch Panel Module includes Microsoft tools, such as Microsoft ActiveSync on Windows XP. Some of these Microsoft tools might interfere with any existing installations of Visual Studio, Windows Embedded, or Windows CE toolkits.
- (Windows XP) The Touch Panel Module installs ActiveSync 4.2 if you do not already have ActiveSync 4.2 or later installed. The Touch Panel Module works with ActiveSync 4.2 or later.
- (Windows 7/Vista) You must install Windows Mobile Device Center to use the Touch Panel Module. Refer to the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com to download Windows Mobile Device Center.
- You might need to install the additional tools, such as NI-DAQmxBase, NI TPC Service support, Shared Variable support, or NI-VISA, to use the Touch Panel Module. Refer to the Installing Additional Tools section of the Getting Started with the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module manual for more information about additional tools.
Uninstalling the Touch Panel Module (Windows CE)If you uninstall the Touch Panel Module, you also must uninstall the following: - (Windows XP) Microsoft ActiveSync

You can modify an example VI to fit an application, or you can copy and paste from one or more examples into a VI that you create. Automating the Installation of NI ProductsYou can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes. However, starting with the August 2012 releases (products using NI Installers version 3.1 or later), you may need to perform additional steps before or during a silent installation of NI software. If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.0, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.0 separately before you install NI software. How to Use NI Software with Microsoft Windows 8When you install National Instruments software on Microsoft Windows 8, you will notice a few additional tiles on the Start screen, including shortcuts to NI application software products such as NI LabVIEW, Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and the new NI Launcher. Using NI LauncherNI Launcher helps you find and launch installed NI products. It provides you with a method of finding NI products similar to the Start menu in previous versions of Microsoft Windows. To use NI Launcher, click the NI Launcher tile on the Start screen. NI Launcher launches the desktop and opens a menu containing a list of NI products. Click any NI product to launch it. Note Unlike previous versions of Microsoft Windows, MAX does not appear as a desktop shortcut.
