Third-Party Licensing and Activation

LabVIEW 2014 Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit ReadmeVersion 14.0.0
June 2014
This file contains important information about the LabVIEW Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit, including installation instructions, new features, a partial list of bugs fixed for LabVIEW 2014 Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit, and known issues.
Overview System Requirements Installation Instructions New Features Upgrade Issues Known Issues Bug Fixes Accessing the Help Finding Examples Automating the Installation of NI Products NI Software Support for Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 OverviewThe Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit enables you to license the add-ons that you create with LabVIEW. Users of a licensed add-on must evaluate or activate the add-on according to the activation methods you allow.
System RequirementsIn addition to the system requirements for the LabVIEW Development System, the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit has the following requirements:
- LabVIEW 2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014 Base, Full, or Professional Development System
- At least 50 MB of disk space
Refer to the LabVIEW Readme for additional system requirements and supported operating systems for LabVIEW 2014.
Installation InstructionsYou can download and install Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit from LabVIEW Tools Network. For more information about the toolkit, visit the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit community.
Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit Updates and NotificationsNational Instruments posts information about critical updates and security notifications on ni.com. Visit ni.com/info and enter Info Code updates to access this information.
New FeaturesThe Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit 2014 includes support for deactivation, which allows you to move licenses and reactivate add-ons. You can include the option to deactivate an add-on using Standard Mode or Advanced Mode. To deactivate an add-on in LabVIEW 2014, select Help»Activate Add-ons to open the Third Party Add-on Activation Wizard. Select the add-on, click Deactivate, and follow the steps in the wizard.
The Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit 2014 also includes enhancements to examples. Refer to the Finding Examples section of this readme for more information on locating examples for this toolkit. Upgrade IssuesIf you use the Application Builder to build installers for add-ons, update the executable that automatically runs and calls RegisterAddon.exe when an installer runs. National Instruments recommends that you call RegisterAddon.exe with the following command line: RegisterAddon.exe -- -s -l path_to_lvlib. The -s parameter enforces a more secure form of licensing when customers install the add-on for use with LabVIEW 2011 SP1 and later. For each installer, update the VI that serves as source for the executable that calls RegisterAddon.exe, rebuild the executable, and then rebuild the installer.
Refer to the Toolkits»Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit»Licensing a Development Add-on»Adding Standard Licensing»Final Step: Package the Add-on for Distribution topic on the Contents tab of the LabVIEW Help for more information about building and distributing add-on installers.
Known IssuesYou can access the software and documentation known issues list online. Refer to the National Instruments website for an up-to-date list of known issues in the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit.
Bug FixesThe following items are the IDs and titles of a subset of issues fixed in the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit. This is not an exhaustive list of issues fixed in the current version of the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit. If you have a CAR ID, you can search this list to validate the issue has been fixed.
ID | Fixed Issue | 430940 | The Activate Add-ons dialog resets the activation codes for offline activation when users mistakenly click submit with '0' and '0' set as the user codes. | 307045 | Deactivation/Reactivation features of SOLO server do not work with TPLAT licensed addons. | Accessing the HelpRefer to the Toolkits»Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit book on the Contents tab in the LabVIEW Help for more information about the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit.
Finding ExamplesSelect Help»Find Examples from LabVIEW to launch the NI Example Finder. LabVIEW examples for the Third Party Licensing & Activation Toolkit are located in the labview\examples\addonlicensing directory. You can modify an example VI to fit an application, or you can copy and paste from one or more examples into a VI that you create.
Automating the Installation of NI ProductsYou can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes. However, starting with the August 2012 releases (products using NI Installers version 3.1 or later), you may need to perform additional steps before or during a silent installation of NI software.
If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.0, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.0 separately before you install NI software.
For more information, refer to the following KnowledgeBase articles:
- For more information on silent installations of individual NI products, refer to KB 4CJDP38M, Automating the Installation of a Single Installer.
- For more information on silent installations of suited NI products, such as NI Developer Suite, refer to KB 4GGGDQH0, Automating the Installation of a Suited Installer.
- To determine what version of NI Installers your product contains, refer to KB 4CJDR18M, How Can I Determine the Type and Version of My National Instruments Installer?.
